Gundog training from start to finish...

Freeman Retrievers Training

Basic Obedience, Hunt Test, Field Trials

Basic Obedience:

Basic Obedience is the beginning of your dog(s) manners. Your pet will learn the following: On Lead; Heel, Sit, Down, Crate Training, and No. (Estimated training time 30-45 days)

Gundog Training (Exposure):

This training program normally starts at 6 months of age. Your dog(s) will learn Basic Obedience, On-lead, Off- lead, Force Fetch, and E-collar Conditioning, Crate Training. Your dog will be retrieving single marks on water and land at about 75 yards.  (Estimated training time 90-120 days)

Gundog Intermediate:

In this session of training your dog will already have the basics down, with no problems. We build on your dog(s) success and continue to teach more complex retrieves to include Double Retrieves, Blind Retrieves, sit on whistle commands, and Poison Birds. Blind retrieves are in the situations that your dog(s) does not see the bird fall; you have to guide the dog to the birds, using sit on whistle command and hand casting. Poison Birds are not what it sounds like. In this situation a dog has to make a retrieve running through an area the dog has already retrieved a downed bird. The dog must continue through the area without hesitation and retrieve the down bird that lies further out. (Estimated training time 6 to 8 months)

Gundog Advanced:

This session is the ultimate, your dog(s) will learn triple retrieves, long blinds running straight lines and sit promptly on whistle command and wait for instructions. At this stage of training your dog will truly be a finished gundog.(Estimated training time 6-8 months)

Upland:

Upland training can be done at anytime after the dog has completed the Exposure Course. I like it done this way because it teaches the dog to mark the down bird so you do not lose any birds in the field. Also your dog(s) will have the basic manners for retrieving properly.
